A course that continually engages, intrigues and excites, Ottawa Hunt offers three rolling parkland nines set over an expansive property. The North, South and West courses each offer nine holes of distinct golf, all of which can be played in any combination to offer outstanding 18-hole routings.

The golf course

The initial 18 holes at Ottawa Hunt are credited to legendary golfer Willie Park Jr. in 1920, with the third nine was designed by Bryant White in 1959. In 2015, renowned course architect Michael Hurdzan completed his renovations to the courses, as well as the practice facility. Hurdzan’s work emphasized the classic design elements of the course—its natural rolling parkland style, for example—and redefined the bunker aesthetic, highlighting the classic elements of the course. With 27 holes, you’re able to access the course on your own terms, whether that’s for a quick nine in the evening or 18 with friends or family in the morning or afternoon.

Regarded for its meticulous conditioning and appeal to satisfy the challenge of every skill level, all three nines are easily walked and can be readily enjoyed by the elite player and the golfer who takes the game more casually.

When you tip it up at the first tee of any of the three nines, you’re going to have a wonderful walk, and engage in course play that envelops your every sense until you step off the final green.

Championships:

Throughout its history, Ottawa Hunt has been the host site of choice in Ottawa when professional and amateur championships are held. In 1932, the club was the site of the Canadian Open, followed by the Canadian Am in 1937, 1960 and 1970, and the Americas Cup in 1960.

Women’s championships have also been well represented at Hunt, hosting the Canadian Women’s Open in 1994, 2008, 2017, and again in 2022.

THE DESIGNERS

Willie Park Jr.

Though Ottawa Hunt’s initial design was created by golf professional Davey Black, the current parkland design is generally the work of Park, one of the greatest golfers and designers the game has known. A two-time winner of the British Open, Park is noted for his saying, “A man who can putt is a match for anyone.” Park would evolve into one of the great designers in the United Kingdom, creating 170 courses over his career. His work in Canada includes Mount Bruno outside Montreal, Calgary Golf and Country Club, and Weston, while his most famous creation is likely England’s Sunningdale outside of London.

THE DESIGNERS

Dr. Michael Hurdzan

Having worked in golf design since the late 1950s, in 2013 Dr. Michael Hurdzan was commissioned to rework the greens of all 27 holes, craft a new practice facility and return some of the Golden Age glory to Ottawa Hunt. There was no one more up to the task.

Dr. Hurdzan is known for his focus on classic golf design principles, and his designs have hosted the top championships in the world. Erin Hills, his course in Wisconsin (designed alongside then business partner Dana Fry and Golf Digest Architectural Editor Ron Whitten) hosted the 2017 U.S. Open, and Hurdzan has been involved with more than 400 projects around the world, with a focus on environmental sustainability in golf design.

Practice Facility

Whether you’re refining your short game or need to straighten out the driver, there’s room at Ottawa Hunt’s expansive practice facility for every component of your game to be given its due attention. Overhauled in 2012 and reopened in 2015 under the supervision of course architect Dr. Michael Hurdzan, the facility sports three chipping greens to allow you to hone your short game, two putting greens to work on your putting, and a full-length driving range with significant amounts of grass, allowing you to work on shots you’ll hit on the course.

Ottawa Hunt boasts one of the largest practice facilities in Eastern Ontario, giving every member their chance to improve at the game they love.
